Maintenance of your kamado Forest Grill

Maintenance of the Kamado is very easy. The Kamado is a very durable barbecue and can be used for a lifetime, if it is regularly maintained.

Recovery of ashes

When the barbecue is cold, the ashes must be removed with a scraper or ash remover. You can easily remove them from the Forest through the opening at the bottom of the Forest. In order to keep the ashes to a minimum, we recommend using good quality charcoal, which burns much more slowly than bad charcoal.

The kamado gasket

The kamado Forest is equipped with a very strong felt gasket that should be changed according to your frequency of use, every 5 to 10 years, to ensure a good seal. You can check every year that it is still in place.

The kamado grid

The stainless steel grid of the Forest is very thick and can be easily cleaned after each use. To clean it, you can scrub the hot grid with a wire brush or you can also leave the grid in your kamado in pyrolysis function. Finally, you can also clean the grill when cold with our special stainless steel grill cleaner.

The exterior of the kamado

The ceramic exterior of the Forest is very easy to clean. We recommend that you clean it with soap and water. If you want to reduce the hairline cracks in the ceramic, you can also apply oil to the outside of the Forest. To protect the kamado from the weather, it is advisable to cover it with a protective cover.

The interior of the kamado

The interior darkens over time as it is cooked. You should therefore not try to get it back to the white it was when you started. Occasionally, you can gently scrub the inside of the Forest with a wire brush to restore its shine.

Tightening the screws of the kamado

The hinge at the back of the Forest and the belt are fixed with screws. Over time the screws can become loose. The screws should be checked once a year.

Greasing of the kamado hinge

The hinge of the Forest works a lot during the cooking process. It is recommended that it be greased with a lubricant once a year.

The kamado thermometer

The thermometer of the kamado is adjusted before delivery. If over the years the thermometer no longer seems to indicate the correct temperature, its calibration should be checked by immersing it in boiling water and aligning it with the 100°C.

Baking stones

Ceramic and lava stones can be marked by grease marks from the firing process. If this is the case, to clean them, they should be heated up strongly in the kamado to burn off the grease.
