First use of your Forest Grill kamado

The kamado is a barbecue that allows you to perform different types of cooking in a single device. You can grill, roast, smoke, bake, and even make pizzas or bread by using the Forest as a bread oven.

1. Prepare the Kamado

Place a natural or solid firelighter in the centre of the charcoal bed.
Add a small amount of charcoal, without overloading the Kamado. If you are using the charcoal basket, place the pieces inside, respecting the maximum capacity.
Never use petrol, methylated spirits, or other chemicals to light your barbecue.

2. Lighting the Kamado

Open the lower vent fully to create a draught and encourage combustion.
Light the firelighter using a lighter or a match.
Allow the charcoal to become red-hot with the lid open. The time required to reach the approximate temperatures is:

150°C: ~10 minutes
200°C: ~15 minutes
250°C: ~20 minutes

3. Initial settings

During the first use, keep the vents almost closed so that the temperature does not exceed 150°C. This allows the fibreglass gasket to settle properly and prevents any damage.

Once the temperature is reached, close the lid and let the Kamado operate until all the charcoal is consumed and the fire is completely out. This process takes about 2 hours

4. After the first use

Check all the fastenings of the Kamado, especially the metal band connecting the lid to the lower part, which may loosen during the first heating. Tighten it if necessary using a screwdriver.

Your Forest Grill is now ready to be used normally.

5. Adjust the temperature

Depending on the desired cooking method:
The more the lower vent and the upper chimney are open, the higher the temperature rises.
Once the temperature is reached, keep the lid closed as much as possible to retain the heat and ensure stable cooking.

Your Forest is ready to be used!

The kamado is a barbecue that allows you to perform different types of cooking in a single appliance. You can grill, roast, smoke, bake, and even make pizzas or bread by using the Forest as a bread oven.

Depending on the cooking method you wish to use, you can precisely adjust the temperature inside the Forest by manipulating the air intake vent at the bottom of the kamado as well as the chimney at the top of the kamado lid.

The more the bottom vent and the chimney are open, the more the Forest will increase in temperature.

Once the desired temperature has been reached, it is recommended to keep the Forest closed as much as possible.

This helps to retain the heat and maintain a stable temperature inside.

Additional tips:

Never overload the Kamado with charcoal.
For long cooking sessions or smoking, use low and stable temperatures.
Always follow the recommended temperatures to avoid damaging the Kamado.
